FORUM+, the journal for research and arts, published my article on the role of interruptions in musical artistic research. I have never been a big fan of discussions that aim to legitimise or challenge the relevance of artistic research, but here I have made an exception to discuss an issue that I believe is underexposed when it comes to how new knowledge is produced and shared in artistic research in music. How does thinking within the musical flow relate to off-time reflection on this process? How can the researching musician build on this relationship and share emerging insights credibly and authoritatively?
I have tried to formulate some thoughts on this in 11 short lemmas, some of which further build on a roundtable discussion with four artistic researchers published earlier in European Drama and Performance Studies.
